When Should I List Items On EBay - An Aid To Selling On EBay

By Jonas FitzGerald

This article title may be asking a strange question, but it really menat by "When to list an item on eBay", I mean:

When is it Best for Your Listings to Finish?

These two questions are one and the same thing. The bulk eBay activity happens in the last few hours, if not minutes, of each listing. This is due to a well used tactic called sniping - where bidders place their bids in teh dying moments of a listing so as to leave as little time as possible for others potential bidders to respond to your bids. To make the most of your auctions, you need to bear this tactic in mind, and make sure that your items finish during a period of optimum activity and traffic from your prospective bidders. This will ensure that you maximise the amount of bidders viewing the most important period of your auctions, and hence you will have the largest possible audience for your auctions.

Your auctions need to finish during the peak eBay viewing period. General Internet browsing trends, and in fct eBay's own trends, state that this should be during the afternoon or early evening during the weekend. There are a greater number of people online during this period. So, a good rule to follow here is:

Your auctions need to end during weekend afternoons or evenings

Using that idea as a principal, you should list your items at the following times dependant on the length of auction:

* 1 day auction - Friday or Saturday afternoon / evening

* 3 day auction duration - start Wednesday or Thursday afternoon or evening

* 5 day auction duration - start on Monday or Tuesday afternoon or evening

* 7 day auction - Saturday or Sunday afternoon or evening

* 10 day auction duration - start Wednesday or Thursday afternoon or evening

My recommendation is to start your auctions on Thursday afternoon/evening using the 10 day auction format. This is the optimum choice because:

1. Your listings are on eBay for two entire weekends - when the majority of users are browsing eBay

2. This is the longest time for auctions on eBay and hence gives your potential customers the longest amount of time to find and Watch your listings until they want to bid

3. Your listing finishes at the peak eBay usage period , which is at about 5pm on Sunday.

If you keep this simple principal in mind when listing auctions on eBay, you will maximise your chances of getting the most from your auctions.
